This is a small specimen of Galena from Yorkshire, England. Galena is the primary mineral ore of lead. Its name comes from the Greek word ‘galene’ which means ‘lead ore’. It is a soft mineral with a Mohs hardness of 2 1/2.
*Important note – Galena contains lead so it is advised that you always wash your hands after handling. Do not ingest.
